Time away from desks, revision, intense study is vital for young people's wellbeing...
Yoga helps with focus, concentration, energising the brain, clarity, activating the left and right side of the brain...all if this supports exam preparation and intensive studying. More importantly, yoga provides a non judgemental space away from all the testing, competition and the relentless pressure to know what a 'fronted adverbial' is!!
Feedback from my year 6's and teen yogis has been positive...
'I feel strong and calm.'
'My brain feels fresh and I'm ready to go and do maths now!'
'I love yoga, we need to lie down more in school!'
One of my favourite moments of this week was when one of my teen yogis came to my class with her revision schedule written down her arm like a permanent tattoo....45 mins later the same revision schedule arm was relaxed and stretching out from under her blanket as she lay in savasana...lavender eye pillow covering her eyes...and the revision schedule was momentarily forgotten! I didn't catch it on camera but I wish I had!! I hope she takes some of that peace into the rest of the week.
My regular teen class is on Thursdays at Akasha Yoga Centre, in central Beeston, Nottingham. From 4.45-5.45pm. During the next few weeks we will look at yoga techniques which help with revision and upcoming exams...but we'll also be having fun with partner yoga and creative yoga sequences!!
